Peppermint Patty and Franklin sit at their desks in school. Franklin holds a piece of paper. Peppermint Patty says, "Hey, Franklin, she stuck a gold star on your paper!"<BR><BR> Peppermint Patty frowns and says, "The teacher never sticks a star on any of my papers . . ."<BR><BR> Peppermint Patty shouts, "I couldn't get a star on a Christmas tree!"<BR><BR> Peppermint Patty says, "Sorry, ma'am!"<BR><BR>
To this day, I’m not sure I understand PP’s point, in Panel 3, about “being unable to get a star on a Christmas tree,” unless maybe she’s just getting at the fact that because she’s never deserved a gold star on a test, she couldn’t get a star on a Christmas tree, if she tried(and it just so happens, that this would have been "the first day of hunting season, "in other words, the Monday right after Thanksgiving, so with Christmas now on the way, perhaps that had also been her reason for reference to a Christmas tree. My guess is as good as anyone’s.
