Peppermint Patty sits at her desk asleep. She sits up and asks,"Yes, Ma'am? You want me to work out the problem at the board?"<BR><BR> She looks at the sum on the board, which is '4, 678 x 52'. She says,"Well, let's see, we have these numbers here, don't we?"<BR><BR> She looks to her right and says,"These are nice numbers, Ma'am..."<BR><BR> She says,"A four, a six, a seven, an eight, a five, and a two." She smiles and says,"Oh, yes, and we also have an X...."<BR><BR> She ponders,"Well, the problem seems to be to try to find out what this X is doing among all these numbers...."<BR><BR> She continues,"Is he an outsider? Was he invited to join the group? It's an interesting question...."<BR><BR> She continues,"Let's find out what the rest of the class thinks...you there, in the third row....what do you think about this ? Speak up!"<BR><BR> She turns to her right and says,"Ma'am?" She slumps at her desk and exclaims,"Rats, three more minutes and the bell would ave rung!"<BR><BR>
