Compasses work with a steady hand and a sharpened pencil which takes some time to master. I had one in Mechanical Drawing and it took close to a semester to get it’s usage under command and even then it was not precise as my instructor informed me rather bluntly, “Messy, messy, messy,” in red letters across the plate which took hours to complete.
