Sally stands next to the closet door and exclaims,"Rats!"<BR><BR> She walks through the living-room, with her shoes in hand. She says,"I can't stand it!"<BR><BR> She sits on a foot-stool next to Charlie Brown, who is sitting in a chair reading. She grimaces and continues,"Stupid knots! Shoelaces drive me crazy!!"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown says,"Grampa told me something about shoelaces and World War II"<BR><BR> He continues,"He said all the enlisted men were issued two pairs of shoes, but a lot of the men wore only one pair, so they could keep the other pair shined and looking nice under their bunks..."<BR><BR> He continues,"Battalion headquarters decided that the men should alternate shoes each day, and to make sure they did, the men had to lace their shoes in a certain way..."<BR><BR> He concludes,"One day, they had to wear the shoes which had the laces crossed, and the next day, they had to wear the shoes which had the laces going straight across..."<BR><BR> Sally asks,"How did they ever win the war?"<BR><BR>
