Sally stands at the curb and presses the traffic-light. She looks from side to side. She runs across the street.<BR><BR> She stands at a pay-phone talking. She asks,"Hey, big brother....can you hear me?"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown talks on the phone. He asks,"Sure...what's up?"<BR><BR> She replies,"I'm over at the shopping mall....I"ve been trying to cross the street..."<BR><BR> She stands at the curb by the traffic light. She says,"I waited for the 'walk' sign to come on...."<BR><BR> She runs across the street and exclaims,"But as soon as I took six steps, it said 'Don't Walk' so I ran back to the curb!"<BR><BR> She continues,"Then I waited 'til it said 'Walk' again, but as soon as I took six steps, it said 'Don't Walk'"<BR><BR> She runs and says,"So I ran back to the curb!" She walks away from the curb and says,"Then it said 'Walk' so I tried it again.." She runs again and says,"Then it said 'Don't Walk' so I ran back to the curb..."<BR><BR> She grimaces as she talks on the phone. She concludes,"Ask mom to come down here with the car, will you? I can't get home!"<BR><BR>
This is why they now have pedestrian crossing signals with countdown timers! They count down as the “don’t walk” hand is flashing so you know how much time you have left to finish crossing the street.
