Charlie Brown reads a book and says, "Dr. Mortimer's voice sank almost to a whisper, and he said, 'Mr. Holmes, they were the footprints of a gigantic hound!'"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown says, "Well, that's enough reading for tonight . ."<BR><BR> Charlie Brown sleeps in bed as Snoopy lies wide awake. Snoopy thinks, "And I never sleep again for the rest of my life . ."<BR><BR>

To this day, no other words in any book, ever, have actually made me shake a bit upon reading them. It probably helps that I have a fear of big, barking dogs…

Doyle’s four full-length Sherlock Holmes novels were published in installments in Strand Magazine. The first installment ended with these words. When the next month’s issue came out with the next installment, the lines to buy it stretched for blocks!
