Hunting the Red Baron is stressful stuff. He deserves a little fun.

All the Flying Ace strips were based on Schulz’s experiences in France during World War 2, so “retiring” it would be like Sparky forgetting a big part of his life. He was a staff sergeant, and it was the first leadership role he assumed in his life. I’m a big Peanuts nerd.

At least Snoopy made it through a Leave without getting morose and crying.

From what I’ve read – particularly Billy Bishop’s wartime memoir published in 1918 – most of the British pilots at least got bombed every night, and I don’t mean with 500 pounders. Apparently most pilots were nursing all-day headaches, in part because the engines of their planes were lubricated with castor oil, and they were breathing in the fumes.

I spent most of my money on women and root beer. The rest I just wasted.

I wonder if Sparky ever thought his Snoopy WWI strips would still be running on the 100th anniversary of WWI?

Always loved this particular strip. Hard to believe the strips are still running so many years after my childhood, when they first came out! LOVED the flying ace and Red Baron motif whenever it appeared.

I hear the publishers of “The Complete Peanuts” are having trouble thinking of what to put in the last volume of TCP. I’ve got a few ideas, like maybe some comic strip tributes to Peanuts that appeared on May 27, 2000 and a few comic strips from the short-lived series It’s Only a Game. Comment on this if you have any ideas!
