And then Mr. Day moved to Los Angeles and changed his name from “Columbus” to “Indigenous People”.

My boss and I get to have our annual “argument” today. Him: We’re celebrating a great Italian! Me: We’re celebrating a guy who got lost! (We’ve been together for 9 years and actually enjoy this joke.)

Notice how she wrote her capital “Q” in cursive. I learned it that way. I haven’t seen it done in years and years. Looks like a “2”, doesn’t it?

Without Columbus, we would need to have a completely different holiday for federal bureaucrats……….

Today Sally would be writing a report on Indigenous Peoples Day. When Columbus came to America, he says, “Hello Days!” and then gives them small pox, syphilis and gonorrhea.

Columbus deserves to be recognized for his discoveries. No man is perfect and if you had lived in his day and time, you might have done at least some of the same things he did, good and bad. He at least had the courage to sail westward in an uncharted ocean, hoping to find a shorter route to the Orient. His discovery of the New World was accidental but it opened up an exchange of cultures and lands.

Any of you calling for the end of Columbus Day based ONLY on what you consider unforgivable, if you live in the Americas, what are you still doing here? Because, after all, if you are not fully Native American, you are carrying on his legacy simply by living here.

I do not intend to be harsh but I am tired of the one-sided barrage of insults heaped on this man. The New World was no “paradise” before Columbus and it’s a bit “holier-than-thou” to be condemning a man you did not personally know. For the record, I am all for a separate Indigenous People Day. But keep Columbus Day. It exists to celebrate the good that his discoveries led to, including the United States of America.

Oh, brother. When I first read this comic, I thought it said “very have man” and I couldn’t figure out what in the world that meant!
