Thibault is a real little MCP. This arc is one of the reasons why Charles Schulz’s Snoopy comic is still a firm favourite. The philosophy in it is inspiring. :)
What’s with him? Can’t girls play sports? There’s many girls in my school soccer team and I don’t see anything wrong with it, even though I can’t stand girls.
The last panel tells us why Marcy needs outside interactions. But being on Peppermint Patty’s baseball team is not good for all parties involved. There’s the rub.
It’s 1973. I think that what is interesting about this particular strip is what Schultz is trying to say about changing gender roles. The last panel is an exclamation point, just in case the first three panels didn’t make it obvious.

Uh…. Mr. Thibault…. Do you know what gender your pitcher and manager is? And will it matter when SHE shreds you?

Marcie was a latchkey kid! Well, it was the 70’s. At least her parents weren’t divorced.

I never hated, feared or resented girls. They were sort of just there. I really didn’t notice them until I hit puberty.

I was a bit surprised to learn that Marcie’s mom is a career woman. For some reason, I always imagined her family as being more traditional.

Marcie Johnson. She makes good comebacks and she doesn’t even know it.

I feel sorry for Marcie. But someone put her mother down!

Thibault was eventually traded to a team across town for a draft pick and the complete set of trading cards for the New York Mets…

Little Mr. Teebow looks more like a girl than Marcy does. CB’s dad is a barber and can fix you up, kid.

Mr. Thibault is just jealous because Marcie seems to have a natural talent for the game and is a better player than he.

Seeing this made me remember the many Thibaults I’ve encountered in my life. I’m sure other women here have experienced them too.
