My parents and brothers left me behind on a hike once when I was young. They each thought I was with the other group. I couldn’t figure out which was the correct trail. Luckily, my elementary taught us what to do when lost in the mountains. As I recall there were two methods. 1) Follow a stream. If you keep going downhill you will eventually reach civilization. 2) Stay put and signal for help. I stayed at the top of the mountain and screamed my lungs out. They realized their mistake when they reached the trailhead and I wasn’t with either group. About an hour later, I was gratefully rescued.
