I actually won third place in a City Championship Chess Tournament and got my name in the paper (no trophies), but without winning a single game!
When the organizers saw that an Expert-Class player had entered, they realized that he was way better than anyone else, so they divided the tournament into two “sections”, a “Championship” section and a “Booster” section. Most everyone entered the Booster, the winner of which would not be called City Champion.
I wanted to try for the title, so I and one other player entered the Championship section with the Expert. We each played one game with the other two entrants, and we each got one “Bye”. I lost both games I played, but came in third. Strange, but true… ☺
He manag to somehow keep his wits about him and keep the bike up when the tires blew? Hope they didn’t blow at the same time, wouldn’t want to have to deal with both blowing at the same time. The rear tire blowing by itself is bad enough.
Back in the mid-70’s Motocross was a brutal tough sport. MX- Bikes were powerful but harsh monsters that were tough to start or ride. It was said to be the toughest sport in the world back then.

No, probably a bale of straw. You don’t waste hay for something like that, it’s only for feeding animals.

As a kid I thought trophies were real silver or gold. Silly me, they’re not even real brass.

Wait until you find out what all that trauma did to his brain, even with the helmet. It’s actually pretty tragic.
