The last time Charlie Brown agreed to trade Snoopy to Peppermint Patty’s team, even Linus was angry about it, and told Chuck to stop breathing on his blanket.
I get the reference but what’s the joke? Is it Peanuts breaking the fourth wall of their cartoon world by naming a real person? Or is there some reason that Joe Garagiola being valued for less than a beagle in 1976 is funny?
Joe Garagiola was known for his sense of humor, especially in making fun of his good friend, Yogi Berra. I think the cartoon was just Charles Schulz’s returning the favor for Yogi.
Loved Joe Garagiola! Great sportscaster and personality on NBC – funny and knowledgeable. Just imagine: Marcie in the broadcast booth, and Joe out on the field (“Hey! What am I doin’ out here? I was a catcher!”)

Only if you had Joe Garagiloa money, Patty.

By this point Joe was broadcasting baseball on NBC.

This was after Marcie had convinced Patty that Snoopy was a beagle and not a kid with a big nose

So if P.P really needed a new short stop to replace Marcie this season, I wonder how trading her for a catcher would have worked out?

Tip for Marcie, when the runner is coming toward you, growl and show your teeth, then tag him with the ball.

Don’t forget that Snoopy cheats in baseball, (with Rerun).

Marcie on NBC? I don’t know how Tony Kubek would have felt about it though…

If Chuck had any sense, he would have made her take Lucy as part of the trade.

Joe also did the famous “Buy a car, get a check” commercials for Chrysler that Johnny Carson sometimes poked fun of in his monologues.

Patty is about to learn a lesson in not talking all the time. But, when she learns that Snoopy is a one legged player, she’ll probably blame Charlie.

Nobody ever found out how Choo Choo Coleman got his name.
Minor League team in Trenton,NewJersey had a dog mascot who would carry a bat to the man waiting at the plate.

But she needed a shortstop. Not a catcher. Never have figured out how Snoopy makes the throw to first base.

So you think it’s fair to Charlie Brown to take his best player. Way to show you know what not taking advantage of someone is, Peppermint Patty.

The trademark of Schulz is seen in the second panel where the characters are shown walking, with the silhouette not even touching the ground.
