Because of course that’s George Washington. Ole George was known for having a lot of extra dumpy. Man’s backside was bigger than his head. And that’s why, to this day, they called him “Georgie Oatmeal.”

This is the winter version of Linus’s skill at building sand castles on the beach.

George Washingon’s birthday was a holiday on 22 February before the Monday Holiday Bill passed in 1968 and took effect in 1971. Now it’s an excuse for bureaucrats to take off the third Monday in February.

I thank God that Washington was our first president, A man great enough to set a standard of two terms for a president. We need more leaders like him now.

Linus’ snow sculpture generated a good laugh.

George Washington was born on February 11, but his birthday was moved to February 22 in 1752.

Linus is the originator of the weird snowman. The first one appeared on January 26, 1958.

My older brother used to tease me when we were really little. He’d say, “MY birthday is on Washington’s birthday: the founder of our country, the greatest president ever…and YOUR birthday is the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire!” My brother died in September; this President’s Day is gonna hurt.

Right you are there, girl. Anyone can do Washington Crossing the Delaware. I mean, really.

Linus obviously didn’t learn his lesson after getting Lucy mad with his full-scale sand castles (towers, cannons and drawbridges included).

It would be a lot easier to do one for John Travolta’s birthday today because you would not have to mess around with hair.

I doubt school kids are even taught about Washington and Lincoln anymore, since the 2 holidays merged into 1.

Back in the day, Washington’s birthday and Lincoln’s birthday were two separate holidays, but we didn’t get off school for them. In art class we’d cut out silhouettes of their heads and tape them on windows all over the school. And red hearts for Valentine’s Day, of course. And there would be about a zillion feet of snow outside, or at least it seemed that way when you were a short little kid.

The Delaware River froze over.

She wouldn’t have done that if we were allowed to fight back.
