Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for December 05, 2015
Transcript:
Goat: Did you see that guy in the paper who wishes Italy could return to the days of the dictator Benito Mussolini? Rat: He's in favor of the man they called 'Il Duce'? Goat: Yeah, and to raise money, he's growing his own fruits and vegetables. Rat: What's the name of the business? Goat: 'Pro-duce produced produce.' Rat: I'm anti-you.

Out of curiosity, are there still some Italians who are pro-Duce?
hariseldon59 almost 9 years ago
Shouldn’t he have said antipasti(s)?

Like the Italians, Pastis talks with his hands … and they get him into trouble sometimes.

Ok, not just a pun today but a tongue twister.

Problem is, my Italian community pronounces it “Duchay.” So touche’, Stephan, it’s Duce’"!

As love the puns, especially the more elaborate Sunday puns, but this on was weak. It would have worked if “Il Duce” were pronounced “doos,” but it was “do-chay.”

@TEMPLO S.U.D.
Sadly, here in Italy there are still many people who are “Pro-Duce”: for instance, since Miss Mussolini was mentioned, she has once answered to someone who had called her “Fascist” by declaring to be “Proud of it”.

This said, there are also a lot of italian people who, on the other side, are proud to be Anti-Fascist, and I humbly count myself in this number. :)

What kind of mind does it take to come up with all of these puns? Brilliant or warped. Probably a little of both, maybe more of one than the other. You choose.

Maybe Pro-Duce can team up with that large antlered animal that stands slightly tilted, you know, “Moose Lean-ey”

At least Stephan’s puns are on time

People struggling over the pronunciation are not getting it. It’s all visual — “Pro-Duce” is the statement (however you pronounce it) “produce” is the homonym. No need for the pronunciation to match.

After the second frame I had to look away … couldn’t make myself look at the last two frames and see how low Mr. Pastis has sunk.
Constantinepaleologos almost 9 years ago
Pastis does realize it’s pronounced “Du-chay,” right?
