I will admit that I wondered why the telephone companies were promoting ‘bars’ years ago. My son finally explained what they meant. Of course my telephone hasn’t ever had this problem since it uses a wire. ;)
I recently read that Verizon was planning to terminate some rural customers because they used too much roaming data though they were on an unlimited plan and Verizon was losing money.
If cell coverage is important, contact your provider and have them give (or worst case, sell) you an extender. I have installed them in two homes and they do a pretty darn good job. There has to be a bit of signal to work with, but once set up, you can wander around your house with no loss of signal.
I currently live in Bumfrack southern UT and reception around here stinks with most carriers. If you drive to or through places like Kanab or those two FLDS communities, good luck. I had to try three carriers before I could l find one that worked everywhere. Normally I wouldn’t have cared but my husband is a rodeo guy and he travels to places where he must have reception. I never had this problem in Calif.
I don’t think 80’s Man can survive for long in 2017 and beyond. He is being marginalized by the pace of technological advance. (And just as well, I say.)
Land lines, dear babies (as Johnny Fever might say), land lines as the cure for intermittently failing cell reception. Wouldn’t be without my land line in my home!!!

Four bars should give you a pretty good reception.

Dead zones are still a thing? I haven’t had a problem with reception in at least two years!

Back in the ’80s when they had the infamous “brick” cell phone, how were you able to tell you had good reception afore making a call?

We went to the theater last week for the 35th anniversary screening of Wrath of Khan.
We had to chuckle about Kirk’s son David, standing on the bridge of a star ship in his futuristic costume, with a sweater tied around his neck!

These 2 women walked into a bar…and they both said…OUCH!

My town is in a dead zone. It’s a dry town so we have no bars. ;-)

On a side note, I’m loving this arc. It makes me think of Romy and Micheles’ High School Reunion.

A bar graph is where they water down the whiskey. Right?

A bar with good reception is one where everybody knows your name.
