I first heard this story when I was a child. I wondered then, and wonder now, why she didn’t dip him twice, holding the other heel the second time. It wasn’t as if she was going to run out of magic water. She had the whole River Styx to work with.

The ancients all wore open-toed sandals anyhow.

what does that myth tell me? don’t hold on to the kid, let the kid drown, we all die anyway. or that superstitions and myths are bunk.

No. 1: pig is right. No. 2: Why didn’t Achilles’ mother double dip, with the other foot? This has always bugged me. What was she thinking?!?
