“Reading for an hour” can go two ways:

    5 min: ZZZZZ, or

3 hrs later: Just one more chapter!

Why not install the Kindle app on your phone Pig? That would allow you to both read and play with your phone at the same time. ’D

what a horrible night; Pig only got five hours’ sleep (and he doesn’t have bags under his eyes in the final panel which is probably set the following morning)

Well, he wanted to read, and he did.

Maybe next time he’ll be more specific about medium.

It’s not Apple, Pig. It happens with all phones. See yesterday’s WuMo for how I missed hibearnating.

It’s not Apple. It’s the way social media is designed. They’ve hijacked your dopaminergic system. Enjoy. (BTW, texting hijacks the dopaminergic system in almost exactly the same way as Twitter.)

Maybe you can download a book onto the thing. Then you can read and hold your little toy at the same time?

This is a plate of shrimp for me. I just finished reading MAKE TIME, written by two guys whose former jobs were designing internet tools that sucked you in. They call things like FB and Gmail Infinity Pools. While they don’t exactly apologize for what they were paid to do, the book offers advice for staying out of Infinity Pools.

Button pushing is highly addictive if you think you are getting little rewards.

I thought he was only checking the time. It would be shown on his screensaver without even having to unlock his phone

Just not Apple. Mobile device manufacturers have enabled the epidemic of “mobile device dependency” of Social Media outlets creating a fear that one is missing out on something if the user/addict does not check their feeds every 2.5 seconds.
