    Their heuristics prioritize engagement (how much you are on the app/site). If you’re the kind of person (and they have a lot of information about your behavior) who is engaged by conflict, then yes, they’ll give that to you. But I’m engaged by (dad) jokes and pretty pictures, usually natural. Guess what I get shown.

    PS: Go Comics doesn’t seem to care about engagement. I presume they have some other way to monetize our eyeballs.

    The problem is that they have algorithms. Machines decide what you’re interested in, so you never see anything the machine thinks you won’t be interested in, and you – and me, and everybody – gets narrower and narrower.
