Love PBS but this has to be the most repeated strip and it always seemed out of whack to me. The whole thing about paper, rock and scissors is that they’re all equal in the end. Each dominates and is dominated by one of the others. In the strip’s scenario, however, we have Paper depicted as the parent in a dominant role over both Rock and Scissors, who are going to fight it out (even though it’s preordained that Rock will beat Scissors). Then again, maybe Paper’s just waiting for Rock to remove the threat of Scissors, so that Paper can then smother Rock and emerge victorious. So we have a parent plotting to get rid of both kids. Pretty dark, but hey, this is PBS.
