Petunia, no one as self-aware as you can be any kind of terrible. I encourage my students, and their teachers, to adopt a two-part attitude towards their life and work: demanding/forgiving. Always demand that you do your best and pledge to make improvements whatever your craft may be; however, at the same time, be forgiving for your mistakes realizing that not everything you do will succeed and pledge to learn from those mistakes. This got me through a quarter century of teaching an urban school with students from impoverished backgrounds.
