Petunia & Dre has some of the saddest, most realistic depictions of depression that I’ve ever saw in a comic strip. I’m so sad for Petunia’s continue torment. But at the same time, this is so powerful, true and important to show.
Today’s strip definitely had a surprise. Still, it’s sad to see her continuing to wallow in self-loathing and recriminations. Usually there is something better on the other side, but it’s a heck of a journey getting there.
This comic reminds me of the abject six months of bed-ridden suffering a relative went through a while back. It was as though his brain turned against him. Nothing worked to alter the direction of his soul crushing thoughts until he, on the advice of his sister, took MDMA.
Here it is July 6th, and I’m still trying to get past that last panel…I get on GoComics daily…it’s available for my kids to read any time they want…and I’m not really expecting to have to keep the site passworded from my kids…after all, we all like to read Wallace the Brave, Snoopy, Calvin and Hobbes, etc…anyway…will continue to read the adventures, but I hope more discretion will be in future episodes…like draw her from the neck up when in the shower?

You’re in pretty good shape girl, much better than Petunia. Time to take advantage of it.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, Petunia.

I must be getting older and jaded. I found the snake wearing a shower cap more interesting than the boobs.
