Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for January 20, 2013
Transcript:
Phoebe: Pointyhead! My nemesis! YOU sent up the Claustrophobia signal? Marigold: Yes, Claustrophobia. I wanted to ask about your name. It suggests you suffer from a fear of enclosed spaces. Phoebe: Naw. I just picked it because it sounds kinda like my real name. Marigold: I see... So your fear of enclosed spaces is unrelated to your super powers? Phoebe: I'm not actually afraid of enclosed spaces. Hey, maybe not being scared of enclosed spaced could BE my super power! Marigold: That power is not very super. Phoebe: Says the villain whose power is having a thing growing out of her face.

Hey not being afraid of enclosed spaces will help when your trapped in an Elevator with Baron Von Fancyhat the evil Bell Hop who refuses to where a full uniform and always locks his victims in the suitcase of doom and then locks them in the small closest of infinite shoes and limited space. Your a better super hero then Mr. Monk in that situation.

Not having claustrophobia would be a superpower to those of us who do have it! (I’m glad I live in a house with ten foot ceilings…)

How about the super powers of logic and reason. Just the thing for a nerd. I know of a Vulcan who could use them to great effect.

I’d like to have the power to become totally undetectabte.. Not just invisible, but also inaudible. ( You can’t hear me either, ) I can’t be picked up on infra-red or motion detectors. I can walk through smoke without being noticed, I don’t leave footprints, and dogs can’t smell when I’m there.
Then, move over Wikileaks!

That “thing growing out of her face” is a lot sharper power than not having claustrophobea.

I wonder if Phoebe and Marigold actually own these costumes or does this take place in Phoebe’s imagination?

The horn of course.

I wonder if she even knows about other phobias. Maybe find one that actually applies to her.

I would use the power to grab collectables in mint condition.

The library at Alexandria would be my first choice.

far better power than Free2Bme. Pointyhead would be mocking FeeTubbyMe..Always did snigger at the Joker calling Batman bats.

Or for the MAC programmers
MAMP achee

(MAMP biggest benefit? It allows programing tests so your MAC behaves like the internet. Far better to look like a total idiot on one computer instead of the entire internet. Apache gives server command)

Phoebe could call herself Aggro-Phoebia….

A shame her superpower isn’t getting GoComics to run the strip on time.

Phoebe is the only costumed superhero without a superpower.

Here’s a fresh 2024 thought: What if Marigold tried making the role play between her and Phoebe as Pointyhead and Claustrophoebea a little more interesting, but it fails terribly?
Marigold, as Pointyhead, tries magically cloning herself, as some villains do, to confuse Claustrophoebea in order to win the battle. In the heat of the moment, the unicorn cast the wrong cloning spell, which divides her into five different traits.
These traits are vanity, insecurity, mischief, guilt, and humility. The “main” Marigold would be guilt, who would still be wearing the Pointyhead jumpsuit, except there’d be a “G” for “Guilt” on the side of her hindleg where the “P” for “Pointyhead” would be.
Each clone would stop playing the game at their own wills, and would run their separate ways before leaving guilty Marigold alone with Phoebe. The two immediately set out to find the four other clones, with a little trouble with the main Marigold, who struggles to feel anything else besides guilt.
They’d first find insecurity, then mischief, next vanity, and finally humility, convincing each one to follow Marigold and Phoebe to remerge all the traits back into the original Marigold.

Greetings!
I wasn’t going to leave comments here until I went through the entire comic; but then I saw a comment that was made here roughly 4 months ago, so I thought “what the heck!”
I came across this comic quite by accident, and I’m most impressed with what I’ve seen so far! I don’t know if it’s still being written today; but if it is, that’s EXTRAORDINARY! It would rank right up there with The Peanuts, Garfield, Calvin & Hobbes, The Simpsons; and a whole host of others; who’ve withstood the test of time!
I’ve imagined Marigold here sounding like Rarity from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. I’m sure others have said the same thing. It’s only fitting, as they both have the same(for lack of a better word) narcissistic personality.
If there’s over 12 years’ worth of strips to this comic, I still have a long way to go!
I intend to leave comments here and there, if I find something funny, or amusing, or have something to say about what a character said or did.
Just wanted to say “hi” before I read on about the misadventures the two main characters are about to have.
Have a nice day!
