Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for February 13, 2013

Marigold: What you inscribe both to your crush and to your nemesis should be subtle, but meaningful. For Max, something like... oh... "You are grander in my eyes even than a very large bale of delicious hay. Phoebe: Eh, it's as good as any of my ideas. Marigold: Now, the bale to which you compare Dakota should be considerably smaller.
Her best course is to say something reasonably nice in Dakota’s card. It’s entirely possible that D’s message to her will be at least passingly pleasant. In that case Phoebe would feel like a heel if her card to D were less so, even if they are given anonymously. And if D’s written message does turn out to be like her verbal ones, Phoebe will have the moral advantage, and who knows it might change enmity to friendship.
