Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for August 28, 2013
Transcript:
Phoebe: This binder has a unicorn on it. Mom: Perfect for you, then. Phoebe: In the past, I'd have said so. But now that II spend all my time with an actual unicorn, it's like... my life has enough unicorn in it. Mom: I guess it's all relative. Phoebe: Oo! This one is GRAY!
Heh, heh…Phoebe is still getting a unicorn-related binder; a primary tenet of the unicorns’ philosophy is the Gray Path, which holds that good does not lie at one end of a continuum that has bad at its other end. Instead, good lies in the middle of a continuum that has bad extremes at both ends. A human example would be parents who help and guide their children too much (“helicopter parents”) versus parents who are totally uninvolved with their children—the Gray Path solution is exemplified by parents who help and guide their children in appropriate measures, neither too much nor too little. Also:
Unicorns are the harmony between order and chaos, living the Gray Path in this case.
