I’ve just been reading a story set (partly) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where there is an officially recognized spelling for “nerd”. At RPI, it’s spelled “knurd” which is the reverse of “drunk”
(This story is set in the early 1970s, so RPI may have changed a bit since then, but it does tell us that “knurd” was already a thing 50 years ago)
