See, I just don’t buy it—maybe a kid could get used to a unicorn because kids are always on to the next thing, maybe her mythical magnificence would become somewhat pedestrian by the addition of leg warmers and a scarf… but I still look at my horse in wonder every day, and it’s been 14 years, and he’s (probably) just a horse. Granted, sometimes I wonder how he has made it this far given his tendency toward calamity, but still. Wonder.
I understand Phoebe completely. Most of my immediate family is fascinated with rocks. Starting with my maternal grandfather, my mother, my little sister, me, and my daughter. I don’t know if any of my sister’s 3 kids or 6 grandkids are interested in rocks. And it doesn’t have to be a semi-precious stone – just one that looks pretty, or is an interesting shape, or feels good in the hand, or just … I don’t know … calls to us? My mom had a large metal trash can under her porch FILLED with all kinds of rocks. When she moved, we all went thru it and took out what we wanted and my sister took the rest. We are just weird, I guess. LOL
I’m a bit disappointed that for all the silliness and puns, no one had commented that it was already covered that Marigold no longer used the SHIELD OF BORINGNESS with Phoebe, yet here she acts like she does…

Phoebe built up that immunity long ago. It’s possible the Shield never actually touched the rock.

Any chance that’s the same rock that hit Marigold when they first met? Talk about irony.

“Smiling Rock” sounds like the name of a little town in Northern California where aging hippies hang out.

So unicorns are prone to getting trapped by their reflections, while Phoebe instead gets trapped by smiling rocks.

If she can get used to unicorns, she can get used to anything.
