I am very hard of hearing and depend on my hubby in social situations . . . when I am beginning to lose what is being said I look up at him . . . he’s over six feet tall and I am considerably shorter . . . it is his cue to make the appropriate facial response which I copy. So far it has worked. He fills me in as soon as he can and I can respond later in a quieter setting or in a little note to the speaker later. I shall get a hearing aid when two more pressing surgeries (one for each of us) are over and paid for. Until then, bless my dear better half!
Nobody really listens. That’s why phychiatrists get $200 an hour to sit there pretending they’re listening. People really want to have someone listen to them.
