We sure don’t see Dan much. (When I’ve had two phone dilemmas {both being the phone accidentally laundered}, I email my family the dilemma to help me buy a new phone.)
The younger generation started this. Older folks were happy when you could go unreachable for hours at a time. It was called having a life. Now, if someone can’t be in contact 24×7 something’s wrong. So now, the shoe is on the other foot. Sucks, eh?
My sister did that once. I went to a movie, so I had my phone off. She drove over to my house to see if I was still alive, because I didn’t answer my phone for over an hour.
My mom rarely called me. That’s because I took the initiative to call her almost every morning (6 days a week, knew if she didn’t make it to church, someone else would miss her.) She knew approximately when I’d call, and then it was when I had the time to talk. Our relationship grew much closer as a result. (And both of us got worried if we didn’t hear from the other.)She tried to not let my siblings know that I ended up as her favorite (but I was the only one to make the extra effort), but as her dementia got much worse, they figured it out. When it was so bad, she didn’t recognize them, she’d recognize me.I really miss my mom, but am glad she’s in heaven without all the problems she was having here.
At least my siblings will text or leave voice mail, if I don’t answer. Unless it is urgent, we usually communicate via email. Although, I had to join Facebook to know what was going on in their lives. I only got worried when I heard a woman (around my sister’s age) was murdered at a house at the intersection where my sister lives. I was really glad to hear my sister’s voice! The murder happened a few houses down the street.
I used to call my folks every Sunday evening, when I was able to or my mother would call me – this was the days before cell phones and cheap long distance dialing. Many times when I called them, it was an international call, which meant uncertain quality. Of course, birthdays, anniversaries, holidays were required calls. One time, for no reason, other than to say hi, I called them in the middle of the week. The first words out of my mother’s mouth were: " What’s wrong ?"
My youngest son sent me a text when I didn’t answer my phone. It said, “Hello”, so I texted back, "Can you hear me? (from Adele’s song). I got an LOL back from him.
I used to keep getting nuisance calls until I installed a Call Blocker on my phone. Works great!I am no way suggesting Sylvia do that to Opal though. That would be harsh.xxx
Eh, once when my husband and myself slept and didn’t hear phones, his grandmother called his father (her SIL, not son) that he should call police as we obviously must have been killed in our beds.
had a friend who worked for her parents. had finally moved out of the house after getting married. if she did anything beside going straight home without letting them know they started to freak. it didn’t end well

I’ve been reading this strip for years and I think this is the first time I ever saw Dan. He’s good looking.

Kind of a shame, really. She doesn’t realize that there will be a day when she’ll dearly miss those phone calls.

I would LOVE for my Mom to come knocking at my door. She is in Heaven now, and watching over me still.

If she was so concerned about her daughter, why didn’t she call Dan’s phone?

My mother never had a phone in the house, she would never be able to understand things in this day and age!

Didn’t Dan used to have a moustache? Perhaps my memory is faulty, it has been such a long time since we’ve seen him.
