I could never figure out why Campbell’s soup always said to add 2½ cans of water to one can of soup. Are there actually people who think that’s the right consistency for chicken noodle? For bean with bacon?
Just be glad Earl didn’t try to follow the directions on the can. The water would have spilt all over place the place when he put the water into the can.
When my son was a teenager, he and his friends often fixed soup for themselves – one can each. I’d usually let them pick what they wanted from the cupboard. One day, a new friend grabbed for a can that was missing its label. “But that’s—” I started. “I don’t care which it is,” he said, as he cut into the can with an opener. “I’m adventurous.” He was. That was the day Zack ate a whole can of almond paste for lunch.

I like them dry, too.

I think Daughter should invite her dad over for dinner, especially since she lives right next door.

I never add water to canned soup. It gets watery enough just by heating.

DaDoctah….. Um…. I think you need to read those instructions again!
It’s one can of water per can of condensed soup.
Half milk, half water, for tomato soup, to make cream of tomato.
The “2 and 1/2” that you remember is the number of servings they say you get from that total of 21 oz of liquid… as if.
Janbic…. are you sure you’re talking aout condensed soup?
You’re not supposed to add water to ready-to-eat varieties….
but condensed soup is, as Earl says, like pudding….
very very salty pudding, at that.
In fact, I don’t eat canned soup any more cos of the ridiculous salt content.

The canned soups that we buy are ready for heating and eating, no addition required.

In really lean times, my mother fed 2 adults and 2 children with one can of tomato or chicken & noodle soup. It was warm and kept us alive!

And the can of soup made the microwave sparkle, too!

Most of the ‘beef’ soups are actually better not watered down.

Actually, I’m wondering how he could gag down the “condensed” salt without figuring something out.

In the ready to eat category, Wolfgang Puck is a huge offender of too much salt.

I gave up canned soups when the “vegetables” were only carrot, potato, corn and peas. How much starch can you jam into one can?
