We’ve given up. Stuff comes into the house in whatever containers, and when those containers are empty, they either go right back or go to the dump. We even return canning jars (with lids). And then when we give stuff away that might have gone in Tupperware a decade or two ago, it now goes in either a good container with our name on it, or a cheap throw-away.
This is a self-perpetuating system: Since we have only one or two open containers, it’s easy to track their lids.
PS: For internal use, we simply put a “shower cap” over a bowl of leftovers. These caps come in small, medium, large and huge, 20 of them fit into a quart jar’s worth of space and they’re re-usable many times.
No Tupperware. Use granddmother’s glass containers. No missing lids. Hold as much as Tupperware and smaller footprint. After 50 years, still no breakage and a lot cheaper to use.
I measure my wealth in intangibles. Having the ability to see sky and waterscapes, to hear bird calls/songs, to enjoy memories, and (no longer having family) to share time with friends. Blessings are much more valuable to me.
You can’t BELIEVE the number of excuses I had to come up with in the 60s and 70s to avoid going to/giving those stupid parties. I finally had to quit corporate America and go freelance.
I thought maybe Earl was going to say how rich they were because of their daughter and grandson. I know I feel rich because of my children and grandchildren. Anything else is just icing on the cake.
When we moved into our RV, we went through all of the plastic containers and kept only the ones that had matching lids, and not all of those. Now that we’re back in a house, I still have only the ones that match and won’t buy more. I did have a Tupperware lid that split along the edge, and my friend Cathy, who is a rep, replaced it for me.

Unload some of your riches, Earl, when Pearl isn’t looking.

Soot, we just dumped a bunch of lids for which we had no containers. Oh well, odds are good that none of them would match anyway.

Earl’s rich in grandchildren who spend time with him. Mine live too far away to see frequently.

Earl keeps taking them to McDonald’s to put his ketchup on since the drink lids are too small. They never return.

On moving house from San Francisco to the Comox valley we switched to Rubbermaid Brilliance for just about all of our containers. Great stuff.
