Our “tree” is getting up there. Some of the plastic-ish “needle” are starting to be too brittle, and I keep thinking one of the “branchlets” that you have to actually bend into place are going to give up the ghost and break. So far, though, it’s still “good enough”… (I would much prefer a real tree, other things being equal… but they aren’t).
Depending on the quality of the artificial tree, it should last 10-20 years to get your money’s worth out of it. It helps to store it in a tree bag, in a dry cool place and not the attic.
We bought a 24" tree when we retired and hit the road in 1996. It served us well but this year we bought a 34" to replace it even though it still had most of its needles.
No trees going up here again this year. I have a large artificial one and a small one that only needs to be carried up along with the table it goes on, a tablecloth put over the table and the tree set on top, all decorations on it. It’s all too much work, although I do miss sometimes seeing all the very old decorations I still have from my parents and my own starting from the 1970s. Some from my parents must be close to 100 years old, and all glass.

Sorry Earl it’s hard losing a family member. But it has passed. Time for a service. Then turn it into mulch.

With a very active grabby 2-year-old coming for the holidays, we decided not to put one up this year.

“Nice Christmas tree, dad. Are you going to put it up yourself?” “No son, I’m going to put it up in the living room.”

@animal Yes, fake trees shed fake needles. And they are harder to “hoover”.

Having kids never stopped us from putting up a tree! Just hang unbreakables on the lower half of the tree but still teach them not to touch.

I told the tree trimmer to just take a little off the top, not prepare it for basic training.
