don’t forget the gas rationing in the 70’s

It’s not so much about the price of gas as about the value of the dollar. The dollar is the new dime.

I used to fill up my ’66 bug for less than $3.Maintenance was also more affordable.

Got that right!!!

Yep, Bread was 5 cents a loaf once upon a time too.Making a dollar a day wasn’t all that long ago.The difference between the 60’s and now is the percentage of your income that goes into the tank.

No offense, but somehow I don’t find that comforting.

Did it take as long to fill the tank back then? I don’t like the time it takes to do it myself.

Pluggers should get fuel efficient vehicles.

I know pluggers are usually obese so it maybe hard to find ones in the right size.

Or walk more. They will be a drain on Medicare in this country with the health they seem to be in.

The 70s rationing was a scam and it’s a scam now.

The main reason for the US inflation is our butting in to other countries and making war on them. the people behind the power continues to profit on American’s blood.

It just amazes me how efficient the petroleum companies must be.There’s a shortage of supply and yet they still have net profits in the Billions of dollars each quarter. And it’s not just one company that’s more efficient than another. they’re all doing this. Maybe we should elect the boards of directors of these companies to run the US. Bet they’d solve the deficit.

Jolly1985: There was a stock joke that the “Arab oil boycott” would be over when all US storage capacity was filled – and it was, they were even using mothballed Navy fleet tankers to hold it. I was working at the Vancouver Maritime Museum at the time and saw figures from Lloyd’s Shipping Gazette – more oil was shipped from Persian Gulf ports to the US during the “boycott” than during the same period the year before. Canada, which was not boycotted, could only get OPEC oil from Indonesia, Nigeria, and Venezuela – none of which are on the Persian Gulf nor “Arab”. I tend to believe Lloyd’s more than US corporate media, since they were handling the reinsuring of most of the cargo and so had to have accurate figures – including cargo they were not involved in.

Scatty: Like a lot of the critters in Pluggers, I am officially retired (79 next month), but consistently check out as a Plugger by the strip’s definition, and still do “real work” on a reduced and volunteer basis.

Got paid on a Friday afternoon…filled the car up (usually from fumes) got a coke and a butterfinger…and change from a $5.00 bill

Paid 11 cents a gallon when I was stationed in the Philippines in 1968.

I rate the price of things to when postage stamp went to 5 cents which was the cost of a candy bar. Like David_42.

Nothing like driving 30 miles just hoping the next town had gas because all our stations were out. My parents in Wyoming didn’t have that problem.

On the other hand, $5,000 per year was a middle class income back then.

I remember gas wars where the price was less than twenty cents a gallon.
