To a chemist, it means it contains carbon atoms; to a consumer, it means high price, but nothing definite since agribusiness has fought all attempts to get a legal definition into law. Now the pollution lobby is trying to gut the Pure Food and Drug Act by making it illegal to list what has been added – particularly genes from other critters.
Yeah right on the garden. I bought seeds, fertilizer and had the ground plowed, that was about $50 total. Then I jacked my water bill from $60 a month to $95- for 5 months. I pulled weeds in the heat all summer, and wound up with produce that would have cost me a total of about $85 at the grocery store. And, no it wasn’t better than store bought— well OK the tomatoes were to die for, but that was the only thing that I could tell any difference. Considering that, I would estimate that those tomatoes cost roughly $14 a piece. And, I can buy them at the local farmer’s market, just as good, for $1.50 a pound.
eat a balanced diet (the key here is BALANCED; ever heard of the food pyramid? LOTS of veggies!) and exercise regularly (aka: WORK). many “organic” consumers eat that way to overcome their other dietary shortcomings!!!
$4.99 a pound? And I though they were ripping me off when I bought tomatoes at $3.20 the kilo. Right now it is at $0.65 the kilo here in Mexico. Regular ones, no organic, they are more expensive too, but not that much.

Would you drink the pesticides used on non-organic foods?

I have a farmer friend who claims organic is code for fertilized with chicken manure.

You can grow sprouts almost anywhere. You don’t even need a window. But, do pluggers eat sprouts?

pluggers eat cheeseburgers

Unless you are eating rocks, there is no such thing as inorganic food in my book.
