Until he realizes he’s got a perfectly good printer there…

MayK, to me the noise came from the old dot-matrix printers. I preferred my daisy-wheel.

If you’re a novelist, printing is essential. Having to rewrite your entire 350 pg story by hand? Might as well just write by hand to begin with.

Using a printer for a recipe is not a good idea, they print faster than a #2 pencil. A printer does not give you enough time to really think about what you’re printing like a pencil does.

If he has a HP C309a like I do then the wireless card failed and he had to move it to the other side of the house where there was a free lan connection.

It is a source of mild bemusement to me that it is almost $20 cheaper for me to buy a new printer than to buy the cartridges I need for a perfectly good printer that has absolutely nothing wrong with it (except, of course, that the cartridges are out of ink)

I like Bennet Cerf’s story of when he was editor at Random House. He would intercept William Faulkner’s manuscripts (very legible handwritten in ink), take them home to be the first to read them, and then sent them directly to the Linotypes – no need to edit..Apropos the death of Lauren Bacall, her part in To Have or Have Not does not exist in the Hemingway novella. It was added by Faulkner for the movie script. Faulkner got tired of traveling to the studio every day, so he asked if he could just write at home and send it in. Getting permission, he went back to Oxford, MS.
