Wow! I had no idea there would be so much controversy over feeding bread scraps to birds and other wild animals..Related to this, while staying in the condo along the North Shore of Minnesota, I had a chance to discuss feeding deer food scraps with a Minnesota DNR officer. Although I don’t believe there are any state regulations prohibiting the activity, the officer indicated it is the primary reason for so many deer killed on Hwy 61! Normally, deer would never forage this close to Lake Superior; but, because so many home and cabin owners along the shore put out food for the deer, the animals literally “mark” the locations as sources of food..The end result is they don’t really use their innate foraging skills and end up risking their lives venturing far from their normal feeding areas!..Who’da known…
