This would have been better to have been used on April 1st. That’s when My friends and I would randomly dial numbers and do the same thing. Good thing there wasn’t “Caller ID” back then.
There used to be phones without dials. You picked up the earpiece and told a lady called the ‘operator’ the number you wanted to call. And all the phones were black.
We were bad little buggers on the phone when I was a kid. We were notorious for ordering pizzas and taxis for the house across the street. ( Not proud of that now. ) As we matured, so to speak, we did daughter calls. We would dial random numbers and say " Hello, may I please speak to your daughter? " That hardly ever worked, though. I remember one man said " Well, what’s my daughter’s name? " I couldn’t think of anything intelligent to say and the guy laughed and hung up. Then at one time in Winnipeg, there was some number kids could phone and everyone would be on at the same time and guys and girls would holler their phone numbers and hope someone called them back. We used to talk to lots of girls like that. At that time in our lives, almost 50 years ago now, that was fun.
In 1942, the biggest complaint that teachers had of their high school students was there running in the halls. Times have definitely changed. “Do you have Prince Albert in the can? Better let him out,”…….

Just don’t ask if a Mr. Jass — first name Hugh — is there.

Caller-ID ended all that hilarity. Now it’s “Your Social Security Number has been suspended!” or “Your car’s warranty has expired!”

Now days you can use your “smart phone” to hack their “smart fridge” and have it order 50 gallons of butter milk from the grocery’s web site.
