Well if you don’t use the newspaper box why did you leave it up ? My box still gets used . In the winter the old newspapers get rolled up into paper logs for the Wood burner after I do the various puzzles in the paper ;-)
My newspaper stopped the Saturday delivery, but you can read it online. And it now costs more per month than it used to be for a full year. I’ve been reading a real newspaper for over 60 years and I can’t give it up.
yup…there’s sumthin about holding a newspaper in your hands…especially when I used to read the sunday comics eating jelly rolls my dad picked up at the nearby bakery!…siiiigh…
I haven’t seen a newspaper box in years. Come to think of it I haven’t seen a pay box for newspapers in that long. Except the one outside their offices.
I subscribe to our regional newspaper and it is delivered daily and Sunday. We get (automatically) a local community newspaper on the same monthly basis it has always come (and, no I am not talking about an ads only newspaper). I also subscribe to Time magazine which due to publishing problems during Covid has become a bi-weekly magazine.
The regional newspaper, as well as a variety of NYC and other newspapers are still sold in a variety of local stores.

The local grocery store sells a few newspapers. That how I can tell who has a bird cage.

To add insult to injury: Now, it’s reserved just for the loads of flyers advertising various Internet services.

That’s why I gave it up. Reduced number of days it came out, increased price, and day-old news and events.

Now they’re used for people advertising lawn work and real estate agents.

I can remember when the newspaper and the mail were both delivered twice per day (except Sunday).

We got a weekly “Penny Saver” advertising paper every week. It’s gone now. I don’t have anything to mask of chairs when I paint anymore.

Pluggers remember when there was actual news one could use in the newspapers

Cobwebs would actually be preferable to the daily multi-lbs. of come-ons, circulars, begging pleas and just plain garbage.

Even though our mailbox had a newspaper holder on the bottom, our real newspaper box was the front lawn.

Wrens build their nests in our newspaper box—and the paper carrier throws the paper in the gutter, bushes, or driveway (in a plastic bag).

Actually, in many small “Pluggervilles” it never came more than once a week. :)
That’s plenty of time for industrious spiders.
