When our older daughter was a freshman in high school, we went to the school’s Open House. We met her science teacher (aka, “He whom shall not be named”). I said to the teacher that our girl is generally a brilliant & willing student, but science wasn’t her forte…even though her grandfather actually WAS a rocket scientist. The teacher looked my husband right in the eye & said, “Sometimes these things skip a generation.” (Many problems with HWSNBN later & we had to have a meeting with the principal. Among the issues we brought up, we mentioned this. His defense: “I was trying to be funny.”)
