15 days until we can throw the bum out. I was a Republican until Trump destroyed the party. Now I’m not sure what I am.

BONUS TIME POL READERS[I will be posting this under several political toons that I follow so as many as possible can feel some hope that the judiciary is not going to placate the demented.]

If you recall that there was a lawsuit filed against Pence to stop him from performing what are mostly ceremonial pro forma duties on Jan 6th, then you will enjoy this.

It is short but if you are unfamiliar with legal terminology and do not want to wade through it, just read the last paragraph of page 6. Many of us have wondered why all of the courts have not responded in the same way to other lawsuits that were thrown out immediately.

356,000 who won’t be taking baby steps or any other steps, thanks to The Messiah.

Two months of constant accusations of ‘widespread voter fraud’ with zero presentations in court of even a single case.

    That’s ZERO, as in NONE.

    .

And Trump Disciples continue to LIE with every comment.

    EVERY comment.

@admiree2 I am surprised that at least so far, there has been little attention paid to the fact that the attorneys behind these unsupported bad faith actions should be subject to discipline. Giuliani should be disbarred!

You have to wonder if this is what’s going on, but Trump’s always been a borderline sociopath… Small Number of Covid Patients Develop Severe Psychotic Symptoms https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/28/health/covid-psychosis-mental.html

What’s not common is to hear people explicitly articulate the actual reason so many Republicans think the electoral college is useful: It tips the scales in their favor in presidential elections.

In a statement expressing opposition to Trump’s efforts to block President-elect Joe Biden’s 2020 victory, though, a group of House Republicans did exactly that. Reps. Thomas Massie (Ky.), Kelly Armstrong (N.D.), Ken Buck (Colo.), Mike Gallagher (Wis.), Nancy Mace (S.C.), Tom McClintock (Calif.) and Chip Roy (Tex.) released a statement that included this paragraph:

“From a purely partisan perspective, Republican presidential candidates have won the national popular vote only once in the last 32 years. They have therefore depended on the electoral college for nearly all presidential victories in the last generation.

If we perpetuate the notion that Congress may disregard certified electoral votes — based solely on its own assessment that one or more states mishandled the presidential election — we will be delegitimizing the very system that led Donald Trump to victory in 2016, and that could provide the only path to victory in 2024.”

This is pretty remarkable! Their concern is not simply that there is no constitutional basis for Trump’s efforts, which there isn’t.

It is also that a somehow successful effort by Trump to eliminate the electoral college vote as the predicate for becoming president would put at risk the Republicans’ best route to future presidencies.

We’re not out of the woods yet. The Pennsylvania legislature refused to swear in the certified Democratic winner of a race because his Republican opponent is busy trying to disenfranchise a bunch of voters after the fact.

The problem with the GOP, especially those members in blue or purple jurisdictions, is that they have come to like being in the “loyal opposition”. They receive the same pay, benefits, and perquisites, but they don’t have to work as hard, simply complaining about the majority party while collecting donations and votes from disaffected conservatives.
