That dates it. “Gen-Z” was assigned after 2018? Is that why Gen-X always had a chip on its shoulder? They didn’t get a name?

David Leonhardt is still on US weakness: Fallen behind — In its early years, the semiconductor industry did not have many customers. Few businesses in the 1950s could make use of the expensive new devices that allowed computers to function. But one organization could: the federal government. In recent decades, however, American investment in research and development has lagged. The U.S. now spends a smaller share of national output on research and development than many other countries. China is notably ambitious in this area, essentially copying the American strategy for building a strong economy, even as the U.S. has abandoned that strategy.

It started with Gen-X, but Gen-Y acquired the Millennial moniker, Gen-Z, and Gen-Α do not have monikers yet but are expected to straighten out the mess they’re going to inherit.

There shouldn’t BE generational names. Labelling generations and trying to figure where one begins and the other ends is stupid.

Is a “post millenial” anything like a “post turtle”?

Generations only exist within families. You and I may have the same birth date, but while I’m the oldest of 3 children, who were born 11 years apart, you might be the youngest of ten children spread out over 20 years. One of can have a mother and father who married at eighteen, another who’s parents were thirty. Families merge separate, remerge…..through death or divorce, or no marriage at all…….

A generation is given as 20 years.
