Lots of reasons for political polarization, but especially gerrymandering.

Unfortunately the media controls our political process by pretty ignoring any alternative choices, any viable candidates should be allowed to participate in the debates.

The bought off media plus the inherent ignorance of the average voter equals the destruction of the fundamental ideals that formed this wonderful democracy (yes I know it’s a democratic republic)

It’s sad demise is unfolding before our eyes!

Don’t know about common knowledge, but common sense, common courtesy, most definitely.

Most of us are keeping a low profile so when the shooting starts neither side knows for sure if we are friend or foe. Easier to get a first shot in that way ;)

Common sense isn’t entirely common either, well common sense does not seem to exist among every cretin Democrat.

When you have liars like Trump and Fox with their ‘alternate reality’ lies become part of the right wing party. They don’t want to meet people in the middle, they want right wing extremism.

When only given the position to chose only hard right or left, there is no middle. The middle is for the nuanced thinker. The longer I experience life, the more range of grey choices I see instead of just black and white options.

The “middle” trailed along a few steps behind as the GOP veered rightward during the Reagan presidential campaign. That rightward move has continued ever since. I thought it had gained about all the momentum it could ever expect after living through the scope and scale of it 2000-2008, but what I expected than was a record never to be equaled has easily been surpassed — and then some! — since 2016.

Maybe the “middle” has decided it prefers to distance itself from the new RWNJ MAGA far far far far far right.

Maybe (best case!) it will return to where it departed from 40 odd years ago.
