There are now few traditional Republicans, their having been shuttled aside by MAGA, a KKK/grifter cult. That’s not to say that the Reagan Republican Revolution/War on the Middle Class was not successful – it destroyed America’s Middle Class, leaving us today with 806 billionaires whose wealth is equal to one-half of the American population. That’s 806 vs. 163,000,000. We are now an oligarchy, where the oligarchs control the economy and the government. Harris and Walz are on the right track, IMO, rebuild the Middle Class with a process of pragmatic not crony capitalism, like what’s found in the Scandinavian countries.

The other political parties are in a minority & little known because divided forces are doomed to failure like the Whigs. The Republicant party is learning this as well. Custer learned it the hard way too. He apparently slept through that class at West Point which explains why he graduated last in his class.
Because you need a majority of the Electoral College to win the Presidency, not a plurality. Three strong parties means that Congress picks the President. Both the Democrats and the Republicans are coalitions of smaller groups that joined together to get 51%.
In addition to its other problems, the Electoral College pretty much guarantees that there will be two major parties.
In 1940(FDR—Wendell Willkie)—-the comedienne Gracie Allen ran a “gag campaign” for President and actually got more votes than most of the other third parties.
Including the COmmunist party(which was fairly big back then)
There is a third party. There are the Democrats. There is what’s left of the Republican Party. And then there’s MAGA, once known as The Tea Party. It’s the main reason the house of Representatives can’t pass a budget on time. And, there is no reason why third and fourth political parties can’t be riddled with corruption.
It’s why I vote 3rd party. Spare me your “You’re just giving your vote to the other guy” and other such foolishness. Your guilt tripping and such false on deaf ears with me. That’s only for the mindset of those trying to rig the system in their favor or treat the elections like a Vegas lottery. I vote for who I think is the most qualified. Currently it’s Harris, but if she turns out to be a dud like Biden was, I’ll revert to voting for Jill Stein. The elections were always meant to be for the people to vote for who they felt was the most qualified to lead the country/office, not to keep out the lesser of two evils. You wanna play that game, that’s a you problem. While you are taking a cold shower to wash off the feeling of disgust, I’ll be sleeping in bed happily knowing I did my patriotic duty as it was intended, not as it is perverted.
Remember, that “ORIGINALLY”, Americans were warned against forming “political” parties by no less a personage than George Washington! But “Political” parties form as naturally as people meeting at a tavern for a beer after "work " to discuss their day – you can have what we have, which is an “Either/Or” political system, which is somewhat “clunky” or you can have the “British” parliamentary system that works by consensus (you can even have what Italy had after WW II with literally hundreds disparate parties) …
The British system seems to function best (depending on how you define “best”) but currently we have ONLY ONE functioning political party here in America, and that is currently the democratic party – what was once a function party “the republican party” has degenerated into a “cult of personality” party…
The LAST time we only had one functioning political party, was when the Whig party disintegrated, which occurred immediately prior to the Civil War… we’ll see what happens THIS time …
Once again, there is NO prohibition against third parties. There are Senators from New England who are independent. Bernie is not a Democrat or Republican.
Third parties generally get incorporated into one of the two major parties.
I know of one third party candidate that was unexpectedly elected to a state legislative position. They could not leave their house by the front door that morning. The porch was piled high with ‘gifts’ from hundreds of businesses so much that the door couldn’t be opened.
There are 3 things wrong with The USA’s politics: #1 MONEY #2 Money #3 Money As long as we choose our leaders via advertisements it will remain that way.
I heard one MAGAt on CNN (I missed his name) explain tRump’s pushing the insane dogs&cats story. tRump was just trying to speak to people’s concerns about the border. He thinks wild rants like that will help them feel better.

The system isn’t “limited” to two parties. If you can get enough people to agree, you can have as many as you want.

I wonder how many times the ABC moderators have had to change their phone number since the debate

The democratic system in the U.S. in not limited to two parties. The two parties would like Americans to think we are limited to two parties.

I don’t think it’s competing ideas they are keeping out.
