My mom had “charge plates” for Boston Store, Gimbels, and I think also Sears. They were literally metal plates with raised numbers that had been punched into them, (possibly by hand with metal dies!) Kept in a small cardboard folder. Smaller than current credit cards. Only used at the stores that issued them. Read at the stores the same way the first plastic cards were, pressed with the siding thing to make carbons. For many years my mom and Grandma called them charge plates even after they evolved into plastic.
The strip has actually been going since September 1988, and as far as I can tell, gocomics is just cycling through 4 or 5 years worth that began in 2002. I think the one I’m looking for is before 2002, alas. Nowadays it’s in color and looks awful, imho. The Creator page has the new ones. But, thanks for the info, it made me dig deeper.
Hi, can someone here help me figure out how to find an old strip? I don’t know the date, but it was before 10/05/2003, and it was about Ruthie going to an art museum field trip and having a (grape?) soda.
They do in mid-Michigan.
