For an interesting alternative, try “Number of the Beast”, by RA Heinlein. One of his later works, it’s almost one continuous inside joke; there are so many salutes to the Golden Age, it’s hilarious! Not just ERB, but Clarke, Asimov, tie-ins to some of his earlier… you have to read it!
Not necessarily – I have one that faces north/south, and sets just fine almost every day. It’s a function of how much electrical noise the signal has to punch through. And it’s a low data rate, so the signal and noise have to remain pretty stable for several minutes.
Well, given tat there’s only on of the contiguous 48 (AZ)… Actually, there;s a switch you set when you first program the clock that tells it to ignore DST. Most of Indiana used to be “Ignore” territory . I have three “atomic” clocks – they’re actually set by a Very Low Frequency radio transmitter in Colorado – WWVB, at 60 kHz. You can’t get it on your normal AM/FM radio, although if you have a SHORTWAVE radio, you can get the sister station; WWV. The “atomic” part is that the time data is directly driven by the Master Atomic Clock System at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder.
Having been EXACTLY where Gunther is right now…. No, definitely NOT gay. Just so utterly terrified of doing the wrong thing, making the wrong move… OK, so if I try to kiss her on the cheek, will she cry “rape”? Some guys do subconsciously (or not-so-subconsciously) fear the rejection of being misunderstood in the aggressive direction. Or are just utterly clueless when their hormones get in the way of a perfectly-good friendship, having little or no experience with such advanced relationships. Problem with being a late-bloomer; also, as mentioned, a possible victim of an over-protective parent; or an overly-strict religious upbringing, and Gunther hasn’t separated the allegory from the truth beneath it.
Overall, I’d have to take exception inre UPS – they do a MUCH better job that Fred’s Ex…
