This practice is hardly unusual, critical, or disrespectful. In fact, it is a tradition dating back to the very first president of the United States, Gen. George Washington, who preferred to be addressed as “Mr. President” while he was in office. It is likely that the commentators who call the President “Mr. Obama” are merely educated people.
