That’s the beauty of an open system: silliness may be proposed AND proven wrong. Christianity never seriously doubts the existence of a deity and / or the truth of scriptures. The bible is a given. Opponents have been killed / silenced for 2000 years – hardly a sign of deep thought. Christians fight science if it contradicts their beliefs. Also, no religion ever says, well, actually, maybe that OTHER religion has got it right. See: Age of Enlightenment.

Religion is by definition irrational (emphasis on belief, as opposed to empirical rationalism). Plus, it’s a closed system – the truth is handed down, not rationally arrived at. Not much deep thought there.

Old joke: the Israeli cabinet meets. “Our economy is in a mess. We should attack America. Every country America defeats is then showered with money”. Defense minister: “But what happens if we win?”

Every war is a failure. A failure to talk things through. What happens after some idiot starts shooting? Loss of life, loss of property, huge costs. And then? Will Iran flip over and kowtow to the West? Hell no. We’ll end up talking to them whatever happens. Might as well start now. – The danger is that some people hype themselves up to a point where they can’t NOT shoot – even if they really don’t want to. – Iran is a complex country, with many factions. We should encourage the moderates.

I love Britain for getting an election over and done with in 2 weeks. Their governments are not noticeably worse than American ones, either.

This god person kills, or allows to be killed, good people all the time. Innocent babies die every minute. Not to mention genocide by flood. It’s a special way to show one’s love, you know. By comparison, GOP candidates are just a good laugh.

I would assume that statement is a joke. It has to be, since Karl Marx never said anything about the metric system. (I take it you read him, since you comment about socialism?) But just in case: for the same reason all American states use the same measures? (Duh.) Oh, the US military has gone metric, too.

Just a friendly BTW from the metric world: we don’t usually quote fractions of Centigrade when it comes to weather. Half a degree can’t really be felt. 10°C is too warm for winter in Chicago, whichever way you measure it! ;-).(Another BTW: did you know that the whole world has gone metric – except for Myanmar and the US?)

They could simply scuttle a freighter, and the mighty US navy couldn’t prevent it.

Wasn’t the Council of Nicaea where they threw out most of the known gospels, and took a vote on whether Jesus was a prophet or the son of god? All in a political effort to unite the Christian diaspora?
