It’s just a play with words. It is a reference to The little Prince, from french author Saint-Exupery. In spanish the phrase is: “lo esencial es invisible a los ojos”. “What is essential is invisible to the eyes”. Oso (bear) sounds quite similar to ojos (eyes)…

“Rayado” is sort of a slang word that means “crazy”… Queso rayado, which is grated cheese, can also mean “queso loco”…

Apparently the llama did make an appearance at last… and I was hoping Gunther would climb the Huayna Picchu (the taller mountain you see in the classic Machu Picchu picture). You can reach its summit following a steep trail not suited for the fainthearted… but definitely an adventure.

I have! I’m Peruvian, and while Machu Picchu is indeed something quite special and breathtaking, Peru has so many beautiful places to see and a diversity of ancient cultures difficult to find in other places of Latin America. Anyway, I’m sure Gunther will have a good time there and I could certainly suggest other places to visit!

It certainly is, specially at dawn. It is truly a beautiful sight. The mountains are impressive, as are the Inca ruins. It’s quite difficult to explain. I’m sure Gunther will be glad he was there!

¡Excelente Gunther! ¡No sabías que estabas tan cerca del Cuzco y llegaste a Machu Picchu en seis horas! Es un lugar muy impresionante. Aprovecha la visita a uno de los lugares más impresionantes del Perú.

Nice detail Greg with Gunther’s sweatshirt showing Peru’s trademark logo resembling the Nazca lines…
