Us Dutch people pronounce Van Gogh so it rhymes with Loch (as in Loch Ness). So what is supposed to be the joke here?

There’s more violence in the daily news than in any game I’ve ever played. And before I owned a computer (at age ten) I was reading books by Edgar Allan Poe, Ian Fleming, Alistair McLean, Arthur Canon Doyle and Stephen King (to name but a few). And I’ve never been in a fight, let alone kill anyone. So the answer is, no it doesn’t carry over to the real world. It depends on the person playing the game/watching the video/reading the book/etc. I’ve also read The Catcher in the Rye when I was in high school and felt no inclination to kill John Lennon or any of the other Beatles.

I have the same with this sentence from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: “He had found a Nutri-Matic machine which had provided him with a plastic cup filled with a liquid that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea.” Had to read that three times before I understood how that liquid tasted.

They’re now thinking about replacing the back-up beep with a back-up hiss. The hissing sound will only be noticeable from nearby so people living nearby stores that are being restocked early in the morning will no longer be woken by the constant beeping.

In the strip shown on november 16th Calvin wanted to rehearse his lines and asked Hobbes to be ‘bread’ and prompt him. Hobbes then read him the lines “Glucose is the body’s main energy source” which are supposed to be followed by Calvin’s lines “In addition to supplying vital nutrients, many vegetables are a source of dietary fiber.”. So if Suzy is the person who is directly followed by Calvin onstage, shouldn’t she be playing ‘bread’ instead of ‘fat’?

And they didn’t even have the opportunity to apply the gold paint. Darn, indeed.

Wulf & Morgenthaler are from Denmark, I don’t think they considered that Yanks need to smuggle Kinder eggs across the border in order to enjoy them.

At least his younger self has good taste in music. I love “Flood” by They Might Be Giants (Birdhouse in your soul).

I have to agree with the other commenters. I like the bigger comics, but the navigation s#cks (should be easier instead of harder) and the small scrollable comments windows is too cumbersome to read. It seems you want to discourage commenting which I think is strange since GoComics is one of the (very) few site where comments stay polite (within the comics section at least, the comments section of the editorial cartoons are a different story, but they are supposed to stir up reactions) and actually make me smile. Having to scroll a tiny window is taking away the enjoyment.
