Not trying to usurp anything, but what has been weighing heavily on my mind lately is this: I have a Jewish friend whose mother was in a concentration camp in Germany during the holocaust. She came to America afterwards because she thought she’d be safe here. It’s now the season of hanukah and my friend tells me that in many cases they’re being told not to put their menorahs on display in their windows because of the threat of violence. The US has so many groups of people demanding, yes, DEMANDING, respect for their beliefs but getting offended by others’. My feeling is, you put up your menorah, or satan statue, or whatever but don’t expect me to keep my manger in the attic because it offends you.
Aren’t we all showing off our superior knowledge of the holidays and how they came to be! I’m fine with people celebrating what they want to, in the fashion they want to, as long as they reciprocate. But I don’t want to hear “I’m offended by your Christian symbols of faith” but expect me to tolerate yours.
I have family and friends who disagree with me about Donald Trump (I detest him), but our connections are stronger than our political beliefs.
