It can also help to pet Orrie with a washcloth, to transfer Orrie’s scent to the cloth, and then pet Janet with the washcloth (to “cover” some of the vet smell with Orrie’s own smell, until Janet smells more like herself again)

So very sorry, Ladykat. A good friend of mine started a blog while she was losing the love of her life to cancer, and has continued it since his loss; it has been a comfort to many others, and perhaps it will be to you as well. http://www.mooreaboutthis.com/

May your heart forever be filled with the wonderful memories of 18 years of love, and may you find joy in helping Paul transition in his time while knowing you are there holding him in love always.

I hope you are both able to find comfort and peace through the coming difficult times.

So sorry for the scary news, please do not despair. Every day is precious, and many do beat the “prognosis.” I will hope for courage and comfort for both of you during the upcoming challenges.
